Red mites in poultry flocks are an important animal health challenge as they can significantly affect the health and productivity of birds. Red mites feed on the blood of poultry, which can lead to anaemia, stress, reduced egg production and even mortality in poultry in the event of severe infection. In addition, red mite mites can also transmit diseases between birds, compromising the overall health of the flock and potentially affecting food safety.
The advantages of DERMANYGUARD over traditional treatment methods:
- DERMANYGUARD provides a more targeted and effective approach as it can be applied directly to birds and their environment, reaching mites where they hide.
- In addition, DERMANYGUARD liquid is formulated with natural ingredients, making it safer to use for both birds and the environment compared to chemical-based treatments, while effectively controlling red mite infestations.
- The cost of sprays, other chemicals is typically higher than the cost of DERMANYGUARD oral liquid.
- DERMANYGUARD is safe to use, has beneficial physiological effects, and has no food safety withdrawal period.
- It is effective for long-term use and does not develop resistance.
- It has a beneficial effect on production.
- When used as a preventive measure, the immunity of the herd can be maintained.
- The product is certified by Biokontroll Hungária and can be used in organic farming.
MECHANISMS OF ACTION:
After ingestion, Dermanyguard enters the blood stream and renders the blood unattractive to the mites which stop feeding and die of starvation. This breaks the life cycle of the mites as they grow and spread by feeding on blood.
1st week: After the first week of application, a change in the behaviour of mites can be observed. The hungry mites will become more active as they look for new feeding opportunities. The mites will appear on the surface of the feathers, as they start looking for a new food source. At this stage farmers may think that the mite population has increased, but this is not the case.
1 month: After the repeated exposure to Dermanyguard, in the absence of a new food source, the mites will sit in clusters and their activity will decrease. The death of the mites is indicated by the appearance of an increasingly large area of greyish-white powdery formation, which is the carcass of dead, decaying mites.
2-6 months: Farmers will observe the appearance of more dead, decaying mites. Often, cobweb-like formations are observed near the dust mites, which originate from a spider mite, a natural enemy of red mites. This spider mite feeds on red mites and its presence is an indication of the eco-friendly properties of DERMANYGUARD, as it has no negative effect on chickens or other living organisms.
Unlike other methods (spraying, flaming, fumigation), DERMANYGUARD does not cause the mites to feel stressed and therefore they do not hide, form a protective layer or "hibernate" to protect themselves from danger.
In cases of heavy red mite infestation, the visible effect is usually seen after 2-3 months. In such cases a higher dosage is recommended. Regular and careful dosing is important to ensure that DERMANYGUARD oral liquid provides adequate protection.
DERMANYGUARD is not insecticidal and has no direct effect on mites. However, its use helps to reduce the mite population by starving the mites and allows farmers to reduce the frequency of conventional treatments.
Some important things to know to ensure the effectiveness of the product:
- The natural behaviour of mites is to feed and multiply in waves. During the high summer heat for example, several mites may appear at the same time. In this case, more frequent treatment (1 day every two weeks) is recommended.
- DERMANYGUARD oral liquid is less effective if the birds are suffering from a disease (viral or bacterial infection). In this case, the 7-day administration period should be repeated.
- To increase efficacy and support liver function, the use of SUPERLIV liver protectant and metabolic regulator liquid is recommended before the application of DERMANYGUARD.
- In the case of immunocompromised stock, the use of STRESROAK immune-boosting and stress-reducing liquid is recommended.
